The Begum Organization for Women (BOW) is an Afghan non-governmental, non-partisan and non-profit organization, officially established on the 8th December 2020 and registered in the Ministry of Economy under the number #5063. BOW aims at defending, supporting and empowering all Afghan women.
In late 2020, anticipating the readiness of some to sacrifice women’s rights for the sake of peace, an Afghan businesswoman – Hamida Aman – mobilized her network of social activists, friends and colleagues and established a non-governmental organization (NGO) - the Begum Organization for Women (BOW) – with the aim of defending, supporting and empowering Afghan women.
Three months later, on March 8th, 2021, BOW launched Radio Begum.
In 2023, Begum Organization for Women opened the first educative platform in Afghanistan that combines all subjects from grades 7 to 12 in an audiovisual format where students can learn, interact, and assess their skill level.
In order to complete its initiatives, on Mars, 8, 2024, 3 years after the launch of Radio Begum, Begum Organization for Women inaugurated the launch of Begum TV, offering intensive lesson of 30 minutes at fixed hours every day since March 21.
Hamida is an Afghan media entrepreneur and founder of Begum Organization for Women.
Born in Kabul, Hamida and her family fled the country because of the war and found refuge in Switzerland when she was eight. She grew up in Lausanne, studied journalism and worked for the written Swiss press when the Taliban regime fell at the end of 2001.
Hamida rushes to Kabul and decides not to leave again, working for various international NGOs supporting Afghan medias’ development.
In 2004, she created Awaz ("the voice", in the Dari language), a small audiovisual production company, which within a few years became a significant actor in Afghanistan's media and entertainment industry, renowned for the quality of its work and its creativity.
In 2020, together with a few friends and colleagues, she founded Begum Organization for Women, whose aim is to defend the rights of Afghan women through various media: radio, web, TV.
