Our projects

Begum's mission is to empower Afghan women through comprehensive education, support, and advocacy, amplifying their voices and promoting their rights to enhance independence and equality. We are delivering this mission by leveraging the power of a creative multimedia approach:

Radio Begum

THE VOICE OF AFGHAN WOMEN

Radio Begum broadcasts 24 hours a day on FM from the Afghan capital and in 19 provinces. Today, it is the leading private radio station in the country in terms of audience and radio coverage, with a 100% female team of 30 journalists, reporters, educational and health specialists. The radio station broadcasts 6 hours of radio lessons a day, as well as various health, psychology, entertainment and spirituality programs, all designed to inform and empower women.

More about Radio Begum

Radio Begum is an activist project designed by women for women.

All of the radio programs are produced in-house, in Dari and Pashto languages, by an exclusively female and Afghan team, and they all share a threefold mission:

  • Give Afghan women a voice so they can witness and tell their stories.
  • Entertain, restores confidence and courage to their sisters.
  • Educate young girls in Afghanistan so they can build and liberate themselves.

Radio Begum's daily program includes :

  • 6 hours of radio classes in Dari and Pashto
  • a two-hour psychological support program
  • Programs on well-being, health, gynecology, nutrition and parenting advice
  • a spiritual advice program
  • an evening program with poetry and humorous exchanges

Our radio programs offer a rare space for interaction and exchange for Afghan women across the country. Radio also enables us to reach a large part of the population (over 85%), particularly the most isolated, but also those who are not literate, i.e. 2/3 of the female population. Today, we reach an average of 3 million female listeners in the 19 provinces we cover.

We produce content to support, empower and give a voice to Afghan women

    Begum Academy

A FREE EDUCATIONAL PLATFORM FOR AFGHAN SECONDARY SCHOOL GIRLS

Begum Academy is a free digital educational platform that offers middle and high school girls who no longer have access to school the entire official school curriculum from grades 7 to 12 through video lessons in Dari and Pashto, as well as vocational training. This initiative ensures that education remains accessible and supports women's journey towards independence.

    More about Begum Academy :

     Begum Academy is:

    • Over 8,500 15-minute video lessons in Dari and Pashto, taught by experienced teachers
    • All subjects from the official curriculum, grades 7 to 12
    • A 100% free platform available on YouTube and as a free mobile app with offline access
    • More than 8,500 students registered on the website and 2,000 on the Mobile app (launch in march 2025)

Launched in November 2023, Begum Academy aims to make education accessible to Afghan middle and high school girls deprived of schooling since August 2021, and more broadly to support the education of the Afghan population.

The platform was designed for users with limited digital experience, with an ergonomic interface for smartphones, tablets, and computers. To address internet limitations, students can download and access lessons offline via the mobile app.

Begum Academy functions as a structured online school with regular quizzes, midterms, final exams, and certificates secured by QR codes. We issue diplomas and partner with universities to ensure academic continuity:

    • The American University of Afghanistan reserves seats for our top students
    • Arizona State University offers free online English courses with certification

    We also support learners through:

    • Discussion forums between students
    • Direct access to teachers
    • Gamified features in the app, including avatars and a weekly leaderboard

To expand impact, we’re developing vocational training in coding, psychology, and nutrition, and engaging video content for grades 1 to 6.

Finally, we work with informal schools across Afghanistan, enabling teachers to use our content to reinforce lessons and deliver structured, high-quality education.

      More details about Begum TV

Begum launched her satellite TV channel on March 8. Using this medium has several advantages:

      • reach a wider population: 54% of Afghan households have access to a satellite connection and are equipped with a television (i.e. a potential audience of 21.6 million Afghans)
      • allow for more flexible broadcasting of programs in terms of censorship since our television broadcasts from Paris where all our programs are recorded by our team of Afghan journalists

The schedule of this educational channel is built around two key moments:

During the day, the broadcast of Begum Academy video lessons following a school program organized like a regular class - this allows students who have little access to the internet to be able to follow these lessons

In the evening, during peak viewing time, the broadcast of a prime time program that contains a psychological support program, entertainment content (series, educational videos, music, etc.) and various formats to bring the whole family together around the same program.

The editorial line of Begum TV is clear: to educate, inform, and entertain Afghan girls and women through programs that help challenge the restrictions imposed in the country—be it on studying, traveling, laughing, listening to music, or learning about the world.

      Our productions

We produce health advice and entertainment programs in our studios in Paris with a team of Afghan journalists and technicians.

      • Tabasum: psychotherapy talk show that gives daily advice on a specific topic per show
      • Matab: general medicine talk show dealing with specific health problems
      • Olgo: a show that highlights the success of Afghan, Iranian and Pakistani women to inspire our viewers
      • Zoom: international news broadcast
      • Dostana: Entertainment show featuring interviews with famous singers and guests in Afghanistan
      • Shad Nama: Entertainment show featuring interviews with Afghan women with questions, quizzes, gossip and humor.

These contents are available for free on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@begum-TV

To diversify our editorial line, we distribute different content obtained from partners such as C’est pas Sorcier (France TV), Razia Sultan (Zee TV), Once Upon a Time... Life (APC), Human ;Woman ; Nadia (Federations), etc.

Once the content is obtained, our teams take care of the translation and dubbing in Dari and Pashto.
