Begum's mission is to empower Afghan women through comprehensive education, support, and advocacy, amplifying their voices and promoting their rights to enhance independence and equality. We are delivering this mission by leveraging the power of a creative multimedia approach:
Radio Begum broadcasts 24 hours a day on FM from the Afghan capital and in 19 provinces. Today, it is the leading private radio station in the country in terms of audience and radio coverage, with a 100% female team of 30 journalists, reporters, educational and health specialists. The radio station broadcasts 6 hours of radio lessons a day, as well as various health, psychology, entertainment and spirituality programs, all designed to inform and empower women.
Radio Begum is an activist project designed by women for women.
All of the radio programs are produced in-house, in Dari and Pashto languages, by an exclusively female and Afghan team, and they all share a threefold mission:
Radio Begum's daily program includes :
Our radio programs offer a rare space for interaction and exchange for Afghan women across the country. Radio also enables us to reach a large part of the population (over 85%), particularly the most isolated, but also those who are not literate, i.e. 2/3 of the female population. Today, we reach an average of 3 million female listeners in the 19 provinces we cover.
Begum Academy is a free digital educational platform that offers middle and high school girls who no longer have access to school the entire official school curriculum from grades 7 to 12 through video lessons in Dari and Pashto, as well as vocational training. This initiative ensures that education remains accessible and supports women's journey towards independence.
Begum Academy is :
Launched in November 2023, this project aims to make education accessible to Afghan middle and high school girls, who have been deprived of schooling since August 2021, and more broadly to support the education of the Afghan population.
The Begum Academy's digital platform has been conceived and designed to facilitate navigation for an audience that often has a fairly basic web culture, and benefits from an ergonomic design so that students can easily access it on a smartphone, tablet or computer.
Exams and certificates are issued, while our partnerships with universities ensure continuity in our students' studies.
To support students on our platform, and in particular to deal with any technical difficulties, we have set up a chatroom where live operators help students with their registration, and where our teaching team answers students' questions about the program.
Begum TV is a satellite TV channel that extends the mission of the other two programs by broadcasting the video courses of the Begum Academy while offering educational and entertaining content for the whole family: series, educational content, shows, documentaries, etc.
Begum launched her satellite TV channel on March 8. Using this medium has several advantages:
The schedule of this educational channel is built around two key moments:
During the day, the broadcast of Begum Academy video lessons following a school program organized like a regular class - this allows students who have little access to the internet to be able to follow these lessons
In the evening, during peak viewing time, the broadcast of a prime time program that contains a psychological support program, entertainment content (series, educational videos, music, etc.) and various formats to bring the whole family together around the same program.
The editorial line of Begum TV is clear: to educate, inform, and entertain Afghan girls and women through programs that help challenge the restrictions imposed in the country—be it on studying, traveling, laughing, listening to music, or learning about the world.
We produce health advice and entertainment programs in our studios in Paris with a team of Afghan journalists and technicians.
These contents are available for free on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@begum-TV
To diversify our editorial line, we distribute different content obtained from partners such as C’est pas Sorcier (France TV), Razia Sultan (Zee TV), Once Upon a Time... Life (APC), Human ;Woman ; Nadia (Federations), etc.
Once the content is obtained, our teams take care of the translation and dubbing in Dari and Pashto.
